A community gathering to celebrate diversity.
A mural by Lucy Lucy, Katherine Gailerand the local community.
A song by Oscar Jimenez and local musicians.
A video to share the project with the world.
Painting Community, Singing Diversity is a collaboration between Alisha’s Café Collective, Casa Cultura, Vibrating Planet and A Voz Limpia to bring people together around the arts.
In recognition of the diversity of the community in and around Brunswick East, the project will create a mural outside Alisha’s representing respect, equality and cohesion.
Led by visual artist Katherine Gailer and muralist Lucy Lucy, the design will be developed in consultation with the community. Painting it will involve resident participation, especially youth and children, at a day-long event with music and food.
At the same time, local producer Oscar Jimenez and a diverse group of local musicians will collaboratively compose and record a song that articulates the beauty of diversity.
Both works will come together in a video capturing the essence of the project.
